Essay Topic: Improving School Food by Partnering with Local Farmers

Ayan R. believes strong communities are built through local partnerships and smart solutions. For his National Civics Bee® essay, he focused on improving school food by partnering with local farmers, exploring how schools can work with agricultural producers to provide fresher, healthier meals while supporting the local economy.
A fan of geography, Ayan enjoys learning about the world and the people who shape it. His favorite historical figure is Alexander Hamilton, whose vision and leadership helped establish the nation’s economic foundation. Closer to home, Ayan’s biggest inspiration is his dad, whose support and example encourage him to pursue his goals and embrace new challenges.
When he’s not studying or exploring civic issues, Ayan enjoys playing tennis and spending time outdoors. One of his proudest accomplishments was summiting a 14,000-foot mountain peak at just 12 years old, a remarkable achievement that reflects his determination, resilience, and adventurous spirit.
Looking ahead, Ayan hopes to become a doctor, combining his passion for helping others with a desire to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives and communities.
The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Ayan who are using thoughtful ideas, community-minded leadership, and civic engagement to create positive change. We are proud to recognize him as an Indiana State Finalist.
