Meet Beth B.: Screen Time and Learning

Hometown: Powell, Wyoming

Competition Host(s): Thermopolis-Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce and Wyoming Chamber of Commerce

Essay Topic: Screen Time in Schools

Beth B. is passionate about staying active, spending time outdoors, and finding ways to improve the lives of students. For her National Civics Bee® essay, she explored the topic of screen time in schools, examining how technology impacts learning and student well-being.

When she’s not in the classroom, Beth can often be found on the trail. An avid outdoor enthusiast, she looks forward to an eight-day backpacking trip every summer, where she enjoys exploring nature and challenging herself in the wilderness.

Beth’s favorite subject is P.E. and recess, which fits perfectly with her active lifestyle. She participates in a wide variety of sports and activities, including cross country, track, basketball, ultimate frisbee, flag football, volleyball, and kickball.

Inspired by Saint Damien of Molokai and guided by her faith in Jesus Christ, Beth values service, perseverance, and helping others. Looking ahead, she dreams of a future where she can be a stay-at-home mom, farmer or rancher, and church organist, combining family, faith, and community into her life’s work.

When it comes to food, Beth has plenty of favorites, including French dips, tomato pasta, sour cream apple pie, kettle corn, and pot roast.

The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Beth who bring curiosity, leadership, and thoughtful ideas to important community issues. We are proud to recognize her as a Wyoming State Finalist.
