Meet Callie T.: Using Her Voice to Combat Human Trafficking

Essay Topic: Human Trafficking 

Callie T. is passionate about addressing issues that affect vulnerable individuals and communities. For her National Civics Bee® essay, she focused on human trafficking, exploring ways to raise awareness, protect those at risk, and strengthen efforts to prevent exploitation. 

When she’s not thinking about solutions to important community challenges, Callie enjoys spending time in the theater. In fact, one of her most memorable accomplishments was starring as Matilda in Matilda the Musical at just 11 years old, a role that showcased her talent, dedication, and love of performing. 

A lifelong history enthusiast, Callie’s favorite historical figure is James Madison, one of the Founding Fathers and a key architect of the U.S. Constitution. Her biggest inspiration, however, is her mom, whom she considers her personal hero for her unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement. 

Looking ahead, Callie hopes to become a historian, combining her passion for history with a desire to help others better understand the people and events that have shaped our world. 

When she’s not studying, performing on stage, or exploring civic issues, Callie enjoys one of her favorite foods: chicken. 

The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Callie who are using their voices, ideas, and leadership to address important issues in their communities. We are proud to recognize her as a North Carolina State Finalist.
