Chilaka U. is passionate about helping people access the mental health resources they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives. For his National Civics Bee® essay, he focused on mental health, exploring ways communities can reduce barriers to care and ensure more individuals receive the support they need.
When he’s not thinking about solutions to community challenges, Chilaka enjoys playing chess, a hobby that sharpens strategy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. He also values the importance of faith in his life and shares that he loves Jesus.
A fan of science, Chilaka’s favorite historical figure is Abraham Lincoln, whose leadership and perseverance helped guide the nation through difficult times. His personal hero is Jesus, whose teachings inspire his values and outlook on life.
Looking ahead, Chilaka hopes to become a software engineer, combining his interest in technology and innovation to create solutions that can improve people’s lives and connect communities.
When he’s not studying, playing chess, or exploring civic issues, Chilaka enjoys one of his favorite foods: ravioli.
The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Chilaka who are using their voices, ideas, and leadership to address important issues in their communities. We are proud to recognize him as a North Dakota State Finalist.
