Meet Chloe D.: Finding Solutions to Homelessness Through Compassion and Leadership

Hometown: Brandon, South Dakota

Competition Host(s): Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce and South Dakota Chamber of Commerce & Industry

Essay Topic: Homelessness

Chloe D. is passionate about helping those in need and making her community a stronger place for everyone. For her National Civics Bee® essay, she focused on homelessness, exploring ways communities can better support individuals and families facing housing insecurity and connect them with the resources they need to thrive.

When she’s not thinking about solutions to community challenges, Chloe enjoys sharing her love of music through orchestra and choir. She also has a fun claim to fame: she once got to name a penguin at the zoo, and chose the name Puddles.

A lover of both English and music, Chloe’s favorite historical figure is Dolly Parton, whose generosity, philanthropy, and commitment to helping others have made a lasting impact on communities across the country. Her greatest inspiration, however, is her parents, whose support and encouragement have helped shape her goals and values.

Looking ahead, Chloe has big dreams for her future. She hopes to become an author, teacher, or physician, pursuing a career that allows her to educate, inspire, and help others in meaningful ways.

When she’s not studying, performing, or exploring civic issues, Chloe enjoys one of her favorite foods: parmesan.

The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Chloe who are using their voices, ideas, and leadership to address important challenges in their communities. We are proud to recognize her as a South Dakota State Finalist.
