Meet Colin B.: Promoting Teen Wellness
Hometown: Salina, Kansas
Competition Host(s): Salina Area Chamber of Commerce and Kansas Leadership Center
Essay Topic: Teen Wellness

Colin B. believes that every young person deserves access to the resources they need to be healthy, confident, and successful. For his National Civics Bee® essay, he focused on Teen Wellness, addressing an often-overlooked issue that can have a significant impact on students’ health, well-being, and self-confidence.
A student who enjoys history, Colin is inspired by Theodore Roosevelt and his commitment to leadership, public service, and conservation. His greatest role models, however, are his parents, whose encouragement and support have helped shape his goals and values.
When he’s not studying or exploring civic issues, Colin stays active through cross country and enjoys sharing his love of music. One unique talent that sets him apart is his ability to play the Irish penny whistle, a traditional instrument known for its rich musical history and distinctive sound.
Looking ahead, Colin hopes to become a geneticist, combining his curiosity about science with a desire to improve lives through research, discovery, and innovation.
The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Colin who are identifying everyday challenges and developing thoughtful solutions that make communities stronger and more supportive for everyone. We are proud to recognize him as a Kansas State Finalist.
