Meet Dominic E.: Expanding Opportunity Through Better Public Transportation

Hometown: New Orleans, Louisiana

Competition: Jefferson Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Louisiana Association of Business and Industry

Essay Topic: Public Transportation and Equal Opportunity

Dominic E. is passionate about helping communities create greater opportunities for everyone. For his National Civics Bee® essay, he focused on public transportation and equal opportunity, exploring how reliable transportation can connect people to jobs, education, and resources that help them succeed.

When he’s not thinking about ways to improve his community, Dominic enjoys taking part in one of New Orleans’ most celebrated traditions. Every year, he rides in a Mardi Gras parade through the streets of the city as part of the Krewe of ALLA, an experience that reflects his strong connection to his hometown and its vibrant culture.

Dominic enjoys both algebra and American government, finding excitement in solving problems and understanding how communities are organized and governed. His favorite historical figure is James Madison, whose work helped shape the United States Constitution and the nation’s system of government. His greatest inspiration, however, is his mom, whom he considers his personal hero for her support and guidance.

Looking ahead, Dominic hopes to become an urban planner, combining his interest in public policy, infrastructure, and community development to help design cities that are accessible, connected, and welcoming for all.

When he’s not studying, playing basketball, or exploring civic issues, Dominic enjoys one of his favorite foods: street tacos.

The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Dominic who are using their voices, ideas, and leadership to strengthen their communities. We are proud to recognize him as a Louisiana State Finalist.
