Competition Host(s): Chamber of Commerce Hawaii

Essay Topic: Destruction of Coral Reefs

Hailey S. is passionate about protecting the natural environment and preserving the beauty of her home state. For her National Civics Bee® essay, she focused on the destruction of coral reefs, exploring ways communities can help protect these important ecosystems and the wildlife that depend on them.

When she’s not thinking about solutions to environmental challenges, Hailey enjoys playing the clarinet and spending time with a good book. Her love of learning and curiosity about the world help fuel her interest in civic engagement and community issues.

A fan of history, Hailey’s favorite historical figure is Sojourner Truth, whose courage and advocacy for equality continue to inspire generations. She also looks up to Diana, Princess of Wales, whom she considers a personal hero for her compassion, humanitarian work, and dedication to helping others.

Looking ahead, Hailey hopes to become a lawyer, combining her interest in advocacy and public service to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

When she’s not reading, playing music, or exploring civic issues, Hailey enjoys one of her favorite foods: ramen.

The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Hailey who are using their voices, ideas, and leadership to address important issues in their communities. We are proud to recognize her as a Hawaii State Finalist.
