Meet Isabelle S.: Championing Safety and Community Awareness

Hometown: Kaysville, Utah

Competition Host(s): Weber State University and Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce

Essay Topic: Scooter Safety

Isabelle S. is passionate about helping her community stay safe. For her National Civics Bee® essay, she focused on scooter safety, exploring ways to make roads, sidewalks, and public spaces safer for everyone. Her commitment to civic engagement paid off as she earned first place in both the Northern Utah Regional Competition and the Utah State Competition.

When she’s not advocating for community safety, Isabelle enjoys spending time with one of her favorite hobbies: riding horses. Whether she’s out on the trail or in the arena, horseback riding gives her the opportunity to challenge herself and enjoy the outdoors.

A fan of history, Isabelle’s favorite historical figure is George Washington. She admires his leadership and role in shaping the nation. Closer to home, her biggest inspiration is her mom, whom she considers her personal hero for her support, guidance, and encouragement.

Looking ahead, Isabelle dreams of becoming a barrel racer, combining her passion for horses with competition and skill. Her determination and competitive spirit are already evident through her success in the National Civics Bee program.

When she’s not studying, competing, or riding horses, Isabelle enjoys snacking on Trader Joe’s Takis and eating her mom’s homemade crepes.

The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Isabelle who are using their voices, ideas, and leadership to make their communities stronger. We are proud to recognize her as a Utah State Finalist.
