Meet Jessica M.: Advocating for Teen Mental Health and Well-Being
Hometown: Mustang, Oklahoma
Competition Host(s): Mustang Chamber of Commerce and State Chamber of Oklahoma
Essay Topic: Teen Mental Health

Jessica M. is passionate about helping young people navigate the challenges they face and ensuring they have the support they need to thrive. For her National Civics Bee® essay, she focused on teen mental health, exploring ways communities can raise awareness, reduce stigma, and connect students with resources that promote well-being.
A student who enjoys history, Jessica is inspired by Rosa Parks, whose courage and determination helped advance equality and inspire change. Her personal hero is her brother, whose encouragement and support have helped shape her goals and outlook on life.
When she’s not studying or exploring civic issues, Jessica enjoys playing the violin and participating in theatre. These creative activities allow her to express herself, connect with others, and build confidence both on and off the stage.
Looking ahead, Jessica hopes to become a baker, combining creativity and skill to bring joy to others through her work.
When it’s time to enjoy a favorite meal, Jessica chooses chicken and broccoli mac and cheese, a comforting dish she loves.
The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Jessica who are using their voices, ideas, and leadership to address important issues in their communities. We are proud to recognize her as an Oklahoma State Finalist.
