Meet Lainey M.: Raising Awareness for Children’s Mental Health

Hometown: American Falls, Idaho

Competition Host(s): Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce and Melaleuca

Essay Topic: Parent Awareness of Children’s Mental Health

Lainey M. is passionate about making a difference in her community, starting with an issue that affects many young people today: mental health. For her National Civics Bee® essay, she focused on increasing parent awareness of children’s mental health and the important role families play in supporting student well-being.

When she’s not thinking about ways to improve her community, Lainey stays busy with color guard and has developed an impressive talent of her own. She taught herself how to play the piano and enjoys challenging herself to learn new skills.

A lover of history, Lainey admires Joan of Arc for her courage and determination. Her biggest inspiration, however, is much closer to home. She names her mom as her personal hero for the example she sets every day.

Looking ahead, Lainey hopes to become an elementary school teacher, combining her love of learning with her desire to help young people succeed. And after a busy day of school, activities, and civic engagement, her favorite meal is a simple classic: pasta.

The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Lainey who are using their voices, ideas, and leadership to make their communities stronger. We are proud to recognize her as an Idaho State Finalist.
