Essay Topic: Food Insecurity

Peter D. is passionate about helping ensure that everyone in his community has access to the food they need. For his National Civics Bee® essay, he focused on food insecurity, exploring ways communities can work together to support individuals and families facing hunger.

When he’s not thinking about solutions to community challenges, Peter stays active on the soccer field and continues demonstrating leadership through his involvement in Scouting. One of his proudest accomplishments is earning the rank of Eagle Scout, a distinction that reflects his dedication to service, leadership, and community engagement.

A fan of both government and math, Peter enjoys learning about how systems work and how thoughtful decisions can shape society. His favorite historical figure is Benjamin Franklin, whose curiosity, innovation, and public service left a lasting impact on the nation. He also admires George Washington for his leadership and commitment to the country’s founding principles.

Looking ahead, Peter hopes to become a Supreme Court Justice, combining his interest in government and civic responsibility with a desire to serve the public and uphold the rule of law.

When he’s not studying, volunteering, or playing soccer, Peter enjoys one of his favorite meals: chicken fettuccine alfredo.

The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Peter who are using their voices, ideas, and leadership to strengthen their communities. We are proud to recognize him as a Colorado State Finalist.
