Essay Topic: The Digital Divide

Riley M. is passionate about ensuring everyone has access to the tools and technology they need to succeed. For her National Civics Bee® essay, she focused on the digital divide, exploring ways communities can expand access to technology and educational resources for those who may otherwise be left behind.

When she’s not thinking about solutions to community challenges, Riley enjoys expressing her creativity through music. She plays bluegrass fiddle, a unique talent that connects her to a rich musical tradition and allows her to share her love of music with others.

A dedicated student, Riley’s favorite subject is Latin, a discipline that strengthens critical thinking and provides insight into the foundations of language and history. Her favorite historical figure is Abraham Lincoln, whose leadership and commitment to unity continue to inspire generations. She also admires Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose dedication to justice and equality has made a lasting impact on the nation.

Looking ahead, Riley hopes to become a Supreme Court Justice, combining her passion for learning, service, and civic responsibility to help shape the future of the country.

When she’s not studying, playing music, or exploring civic issues, Riley enjoys competing in swimming and relaxing with one of her favorite meals: spaghetti.

The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Riley who are using their voices, ideas, and leadership to strengthen their communities. We are proud to recognize her as a South Carolina State Finalist.
