Meet Will F.: Preserving History for Future Generations

Hometown: Roanoke, Virginia

Competition Host(s): Roanoke Regional Chamber and The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation

Essay Topic: Historic Preservation

Will F. is passionate about protecting and preserving the places and stories that connect communities to their past. For his National Civics Bee® essay, he focused on historic preservation, exploring ways to protect important landmarks and ensure future generations can learn from and appreciate the nation’s history.

When he’s not thinking about civic issues, Will enjoys staying active on the soccer field. He also has a fun fact that makes his birthday especially memorable: he was born on April Fools’ Day.

A lover of history, Will’s favorite historical figure is Harry S. Truman, whose leadership helped guide the United States through a transformative period in world history. He also credits his parents as his personal heroes for their support, encouragement, and guidance.

Looking ahead, Will hopes to become a lawyer, combining his passion for history, government, and public service to make a positive impact in his community.

When he’s not studying, playing soccer, or exploring historic sites, Will enjoys one of his favorite foods: dumplings.

The National Civics Bee celebrates students like Will who are using their voices, ideas, and leadership to strengthen their communities. We are proud to recognize him as a Virginia State Finalist.
